Campus Scooter’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Campus Scooter is located at 539 N. Clippert – Lansing, MI 48912 – MAP
How Fast Do Your Scooters Go?
Our scooters miles per hour are typically based on the size of the motor, how heavy the unit is and the weight of the driver and passenger. Most 49cc scooters average between 30-40/MPH.
Do You Need To Premix Gas And Oil For Your Scooters?
No. All of our scooters are 4-stroke engines that require no mixing…just gas and go. They are quieter, cleaner, last longer and have better gas mileage than 2-stroke engines.
Do You Need A Motorcycle License To Drive Your Scooters?
No. In the State of Michigan, any scooter under 50cc only requires an operators license. A moped license can be obtained for riders starting at age 15.
Do You Stock Parts or Can You Get Parts For Your Scooters?
Yes we stock many mechanical parts for our scooters. If we don’t have a part in stock we have several suppliers we deal with directly to make sure we can get parts for our scooters as well as scooters purchased elsewhere. Parts covered under Warranty come to us directly from the manufacturer.
Do you sell used scooters?
On rare occasions we do come across a scooter that the owner not only kept in “like new” condition but can show a full maintenance schedule of all oil changes and other services needed to ensure the scooters longevity. Under these circumstances only we may consider purchasing a pre-owned scooter. We will never purchase a scooter for re-sale that isn’t in great condition and wasn’t serviced with routine maintenance. Over the many years we have been in business the majority of our scooter repair business has comprised of repairs on pre-owned scooters or people who purchased new “cheap” online scooters. Use caution when purchasing pre-owned scooters and cheap new scooters.
Do you service other makes and models of scooters/mopeds?
Yes, in fact over 80% of our service repair work is on scooters Campus Scooter did not sell. The majority of the repairs are on pre-owned scooters and newly purchased “cheap” scooters. We do not repair scooters/mopeds built before 2000 for parts are generally scarce or no longer made.
When Should I Get An Oil Change and What Oil Should I Use?
The manufacturer suggests changing the oil after the first 300 miles for a new scooter. The type of oil to use is specified by the manufacturer of your scooter. This information can be found on the motor of the scooter or the literature that came with your scooter. NEVER OVERFILL YOUR OIL. This could be a costly mistake.
What If I Overfill My Oil?
If you put too much oil in your scooter it can be a costly mistake. If you overfill your oil, open the drain plug to remove the excess before riding your scooter again.
How Do You Handle Warranties?
All of our scooters come with a manufacturers mechanical parts warranty. Contact us for additional details. We also offer additional optional warranties.
The first optional extended warranty available on our Scooters is a Limited Parts Warranty.
The second optional extended warranty is the Campus Scooter Premium Warranty. This warranty extends the mileage of the Limited Parts warranty as well as covers several hours of labor provided by a Campus Scooter technician.
* Both warranties are optional upgrades. We handle warranty claims by working with our customers to fill out a simple parts request. Sometimes the manufacturer requests to pull the part and send it to them. Shipping charges may apply. Once the replacement part is received our mechanic will install the new part at our discounted customer hourly rate. If a mechanic other than a Campus Scooter mechanic works on a scooter, it voids the warranty. If a scooter is involved in an accident it voids all warranties.
* It is upon the owner of the scooter to make arrangements to get the scooter to a Campus Scooter repair center for any and all repairs, including warranty repairs. Campus Scooter does not provide this service since it is an outsourced service.

Average milage on one of our 49cc gas scooters is between 80 to 100 MPG.
What If My Scooter Gets Body Damage?
If your scooter gets body or cosmetic damage for any reason once it leaves the store, the warranty does not cover this type of damage. If a scooter is crashed in any matter, the entire mechanical warranty will be voided.
What If My Scooter Tips Over?
If your scooter tips over for any reason, oil could find its way into parts of the scooter that it shouldn’t go. The best thing is to sit it back up and let stand for at least a few hours. If the scooter is not running right after a spill get it to a mechanic immediately
