Here are a few additional things that will guarantee a smooth transition from a “Brand New Scooter” to “Broken in Scooter.” What is meant by “broken in” is to drive your scooter easy for the first 300 miles of travel to ensure all the internal seals set correctly. New scooters need to be driven but driven with care to ensure proper “breaking in”. The first 300-500 miles are critical so it recommended that you let your scooter idle for a few minutes before you ride, do not drive the scooter at full throttle speeds for extended periods of time and always use Premium gas. After the “break in period” it is recommended to change your engine oil and gear oil. Campus Scooter offers this a Premium Oil Change Service but if you are handy, it’s perfectly acceptable to do it yourself. Just remember: NEVER OVERFILL YOUR OIL! If you overfill your oil you can cause severe engine damage. A helpful link to changing your oil can be found here:

It is also recommended to watch your gas tank when filling your tank with Premium Fuel. There is a bar marker that is visible from the fill opening that has a distinct metal line. If you are used to filling cars and heavy gas guzzling SUV’s you may be surprised to see how fast you can fill a scooter. Do not watch the pump itself…watch the actual tank on your scooter. If by accident you over fill past the fill bar, you may notice a gas leak that seems to come from the underside near the engine. Do not panic, this is a safety measure on all scooters. When a scooter is overfilled the excess is drained out of a tube on the side of the chassis. If this happens, let the excess gas leak, wait a few minutes and carry on your way. It is also recommended at add Gas Stabilizer to your Premium Fuel at least once a month to help keep the fuel system clean.
The last owner tip is to check your tire pressure at least once a week. The recommended PSI is 36 pounds per square inch on the front and about 36 for the rear. Our scooters have tubeless tires so do not attempt to jump curbs or drive with excessive weight (passenger). In Michigan it is illegal to ride with a passenger. If you encounter a tire “blow out” immediately get off the scooters and push it to the closest convenient destination. If you choose to ride on a flat it may bend your rim(s) or rip up your tire(s) resulting in a more costly repair.
If you follow these simple rules you will have an enjoyable scooter experience. If you purchased a scooter from Campus Scooter and ever have a question feel free to stop by, call 517-333-6990 or email us and we will be happy to be of service. Again thank you for your purchase and happy scooting! – Campus Scooter
